2010-2011 Professional Development Plan for the Howard School District:
The Howard school District has set aside 6 days for teacher professional development on the following dates. Teachers are required to attend and support staff will attend according to the relevance of what they do. Our professional development will be funded by Howard School Districts general education budget.
Full day in-service days; August 19, October 15, November 19, January 31, March 7, and April 11.
Professional Development topics include;
* TAT, 504’s and Autism/Wikispaces and 21st Century Skills-August *Data review and Technology Integration–October *Training on the use of Achievement Series- November *Teaching Strategies and Assessment - January *Curriculum Mapping- March *Use of Technology, review updates and Sharing– April
Along with the above Professional Development topics, Teachers are sent to a variety of workshops that address the above topics and others throughout the school year.
We feel this plan supports our goals and objectives for increasing student achievement. Our goals have been to increase teacher awareness and use of technology to enhance teaching and to implement teaching strategies that are directly tied to student achievement if they are regularly used (these are based on the findings of Robert Marzano and his book Classroom Instruction That Works).
We will evaluate our professional development this year with teacher and staff surveys and the regular evaluation process.
